Last night I trashed the Epson driver folder. Deleted any certifcates related to Epson. Cleared all printers out of the Printer Setup Utility. Rebooted withethe printers off (C40UX and Color Stylus 800).

To be sure the printers worked I installed Gimp drivers and verified they print and communicate which worked. Deleted those drivers.

Rebooted.

Installed the Epson driver package from the extra installs package of the Tiger disk. Drivers for the two printers I have were not present in th eEpson folder after this. I did have the drivers from the Epson web site saved on my machine. I installed both of these.

Rebooted after each install (required). Printers were off during these reboots. Still no drivers installed.

Turned the printers on and rebooted.

Opened Printer Setup Untility expecting to add the new drivers. To my amazement the Epson (not Gimp) drivers were installed and worked. The Utility icon was dimmed though, but I was able to run Epson Utility directly from its location on my HD and it found both printers and the untility worked!

So now I will not touch anything!

In support of Apple not supplying Epson drivers, I beleive they have removed Epson drivers that Epson does not support for OS 10.4, even though they appear to work. Apple decided to supply the GIMP drivers which do work, but suffer from perfomance problesma and of course no utility access.
