If the moderators have no objection, can we just right here collect all the great interface "re-enhancements" which are native to OSX and which capture Classic OS 9 and earlier functionality? I think it would be a great service to many of us transitioners and to a lot of shareware app developers who need the publicity.

Let the RUMI (Refugee Utilities for Mac Interface) list begin!

Let me vote immediately for Classic Menu, Sig Software, www.sigsoftware.com.

tttt/

I give it 4.5 Togs! (Five Togs is the absolute best at capturing original interface design, performance and function.)

Cast my vote for ASM

Application Switcher Menu

http://asm.vercruesse.de

I think that if 5 "Togs" is the standard for perfection, this little app should get more, since it improves on the original.

Best,
Brad

I'd knock off a deciTog because Classic Menu's icon background doesn't adapt to menubars of non-Aqua persuasion.

The archetype of a 5-Tog RUMI is ASM. I rarely use it as a switcher, but the way it unifies an app's windows in Classic Window Mode is indispensible. Free. http://asm.vercruesse.de

I buy that! You know, as long as the app captures the power of the original, I welcome innovations. Maybe we should simply add a + (plus sign) to any rating which adds new features to the Classic utility.

WindowShade X.1 is out, from http://www.unsanity.com/products.php, shareware. Can't rate it because I haven't tried the demo yet.

I think it's excellent, if you're one of those people who do not constantly want to go to the dock to re-magnify windows.
WebConfidential does not like the windowshading, though, and OmniWeb 4.1 (up to SP10 I think) reallydoesn't.

Doesn't support all OSX apps? Sounds like 4.0 Togs to me.
Still, I must try it.

Along with ASM, I dabble with X-assist. They are basically the same, with some minor different functionalities. Depending on the week, I am running one or the other. But if you like ASM, at least try X-assist for a day. I like its ability to add customized hierarchical folders and it also allows direct access to individual system preferences.

5+ TOGS for X-assist

Oh yeah, I forgot.

I love piDock. It is a small app that is very configurable and gives you dock-like hierarchical menus that are very rapidly accessed. Solves a lot of slow finder problems for me. Also lets you go deeper than five menus, a current limitation with the dock.

5 TOGS.

Do you have website URL's for both of those, Thundarr?

Sure do. Both are available at http://www.versiontracker.com,

but piDock can be found at http://www.pidock.com/

and X-assist can be found at http://members.ozemail.com.au/~pli/x-assist/
