Greetings all-

The Stuffit Deluxe 7.0.1 updater is posted on our site. You can find it at http://www.stuffit.com/stuffit/deluxe/updates.html

Fixed in the update:
  • [ArchiveSearch/Deluxe] Worked around a MacOS X bug that resulted in a
    crash on some non-english systems.

  • [ArchiveViaRename] Fixed a conflict with Adobe's print drivers.

  • [Deluxe] Copying/Duplicating when a conflict existed now works properly
    for Zip archives.
  • [Deluxe] Recording duplicate action will contain the replacing parameter
    when necessary.
  • [Deluxe] Fixed a scripting bug setting the anti-virus application in the
    preferences property.
  • [Deluxe/Engine] Added an alternate 'bring to front' string tailored for
    MacOS X.
  • [Deluxe/Expander/StuffItCM/Helper/MenuPrefs] Added support for the
    MacOS X version of VirusBarrier.
  • [Deluxe/DropStuff/DropZip/DropTar] Fixed a bug that could cause a crash
on machines that have no network connectivity.

  • [DropStuff] Corrected a typo in the BinHexing panel.
  • [DropStuff/DropZip/DropTar/Expander] Improved error reporting.

  • [Engine] Fixed a bug that caused a crash when the engine prompted
    for a destination on expansion.
  • [Engine] Fixed a bug that caused incorrect Finder flags to be set
for files on expansion under MacOS Classic.
  • [Engine] Fixed a bug that caused type/creators with high-ascii characters
    to be handled incorrectly.
  • [Engine] Fixed a memory leak when calling OpenStuffItEngine/
    CloseStuffItEngine repeatedly.
  • [Engine] Fixed a bug correctly recognizing MacBinary I/II files.
  • [Engine] Fixed a bug in segment and join that would override the desired
    conflict resolution.
  • [Engine] Changed SitX fast compressor level/extent to allow for faster
    compression.
  • [Engine] Improved Finder location placement during expansion.

  • [Expander/StuffItCM/Helper] Fixed a bug that would delete the original
archive on cancel if the 'delete originals' preference was enabled.
  • [Expander] Ignore corrupt entries in the Internet Config database.

  • [Helper] Fixed a bug that caused a stack overrun expanding LHa archives.
  • [Helper] Changes to improve startup behavior particularly if DragThing is
    also installed.
  • [Helper/StuffItCM] Fixed a memory leak.
  • [Helper/StuffItCM] Fixed a bug that allows operations to occur on items
    in trash subfolders.

  • [MagicMenuX] MagicMenu should now load when certain other contextual
menu items and application enhancers are loaded.
  • [MagicMenuX] Command-S should no longer cause a crash when the user is
running 10.2, is in column view, and has a folder selected.
  • [MagicMenuX] In certain cases after a crash involving a cmd-s crash,
cmd-s and cmd-u became active when other applications were in the
foreground rather than the Finder. This should be fixed now.
  • [MagicMenuX] Added Command-key compatibility for alternative keyboard
layouts such as Dvorak. 10.2 and higher.

The Stuffit Deluxe plug-in for Word X still does not work with SD 7.0.1 for Office X (in French, I could not check in the US version). I still get a message saying Impossible de trouver le menu spécifié (cannot find the specified menu)…

Made the classic mistake thinking that this might actually fix a most vexing problem.. i.e the downloaded sit files will automatically expand like they're supposed to.. BIG MISTAKE!

Soon as I installed the update, my Kensington Trackball was rendered useless. As in the cursor moves around and clicks work but that is it. Nothing else. This is a major no-good.

One is positively underwhelmed by the reviews on VersionTracker of this so-called update.

Between this and Spring Clean/iClean...you guys are batting -1000! (as in minus).

L8R...as in MUCH!

Hello,

I guess you're not reading or choosing to ignore the positive posts too. Many of those folks haven't even tried the update yet they're complaining. Go figure what they're motivations may be. But I'm sure that if Aladdin could reproduce their problem or bug, they would try to fix it. But then again when people want to complain, there's just no stopping them. If it makes them feel good, then I can understand why they do it.

I certainly hope this fixes the constant problems I've had with MagicMenu (command-S in programs other than the Finder causing SystemUIServer to crash, not being able to use command-U in word processing/text editing programs).

i just installed 7.0.1 on OS X 10.2.1.
it did NOT fix the crashes when opening .sit files with stuffit deluxe.

if found that the crash is due to specific settings in the international preferences pane!
if your stuffit crashes try this:

open preferences > International > Numbers

since i am in switzerland i had a ' (single quote) as a seperator for thousands.
i just replaced that ' with a , and it won't crash anymore.

josh: if you want to repro the crash just select "Switzerland (German)" [any of the swiss will do] and try to open a .sit file with SD 7.0.1.

cheers,
phil

I've re-installed SD 7 with the 7.0.1 update on my system (MacOS 9.1). THe problems with file attributes getting set strangely and .gz files not expanding have been fixed. Thanks.

One change is bugging me. If I expand a .sit file which was downloaded in a .hqx or .bin encoding, SD 6.5 used to retain the .sit file but 7.0.1 appears not to. I just end up with the expanded folder only instead of both the folder AND the .sit file. I do NOT have the preferences set to delete intermediate archives, etc.
Is this a change? Can it be overridden with a Preferences change?

Hello nagy,

In Expander under its preferences you have an option where you can select "Continue to expand if possible" and this maybe occurring. The question I have is whether the .hqx file is still there. If it is, then essentially you still have the .sit file within it even though Expander has expanded it completely. If you don't have it, within Internet Explorer in its preferences under "Receiving Files" in "Download Options" there is a check box where you can have it "Automatically decode BinHex files." Now my experience has shown me that IE has worked inconsistently with regards to this check box. Sometimes when I have it checked, the original .hqx file is deleted after Expander has expanded it; and, at other times, it's still there. So if the original .hqx file is disappearing on your end, it maybe because you have the checkbox checked. I hope this helps you.
