As you can see - the majority of emacs with problems are in the last half of 2004. My emac has the distiction of being the oldest (sniff).

Beginning around Fall/Winter of 2005 we began to see random lockups of many of our lab eMacs purchased in 2004. The lockups showed up as scrambled video graphics and not coming out of sleep mode. We were able to decrease the number of lockups by removing the ati gl extension. This only held off the problem. This workaround is no longer working on the most degraded of the eMacs. A small number of these eMacs are now locking up during bootup. I flipped a whole lab of 31 computers to find that 5 didn't show initial capacitor bulging.The remaining 26 computers showed bulging caps underneath the ram access door. The 5 good computers need the outer shell removed to make sure the rest of the caps are good. I took the shell off the worst of the bunch and found that all the capacitors with the + (plus sign) on top were bulged or bulged and leaking. All of the capacitors with the K on top were fine.

This is only ONE of my 2004 eMac labs. I have 11 more labs from the same year that are experiencing the same lockups. If I end up with similar results in the remaining labs then that will come out to aproximately 323 failing computers out of 384 total. All of these eMacs are 1.25ghz eMacs purchased during Summer 2004.

Call Apple Customer Relations. Ask them what Apple plans to do about this issue. Ask them if the leaking caps pose a health hazzard; ask them if whatever is leaking out of the caps is hazzardous. Ask them if it's Apple's policy to allow you and thousands of their customers to be exposed to acid leaking from the defective logic boards of their computers. Ask them who the company Vice President in charge of AppleCare is and how to contact them.
