This is getting more than annoying. I sent them an extensive email describing the same prob we're all having. I got FOUR tickets back by email ("This message is to notify you that your ticket has been submitted.") for one submission. It's been a week and a half and if I click on any of the links in the tickets I get this from their site: "Support System Unavailable. Due to ongoing issues with performance and reliability our support site is temporarily offline for maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience, please check back later." For 11 days?!? Not happy.

Another me, too. I think this is fraudulent. I thought I was onto something when I noticed that a few utility files were being associated with an app called missing sync. If you go into the "Today" category in the finder, you will see a few ini files are launched when you try to open Dictate. In my case, those files were set to open with missing sync. So, I uninstalled missing sync and manually associated those files with Dictate. No luck.

I am angry- I paid $25 extra for overnight shipping- I need to get some direction on a business decision soon. Again- fraudulent.

I purchased mine from MacMall. I called MacMall and they acknowledged that several other customers have called and complained that the software does not work. I personally think my box looked like it had been opened before. In any case, apparently MacMall had called MacSpeech and told them multiple people called to complain. MacSpeech provided their customer service number and told them to have customers call- they agreed to replace the software - no questions asked.

Of course, they are not reachable on the weekend. I was hoping to test the software to put in a production situation by next week. Very frustrating.

I suspect the data disk is bad. Would be great if someone out there was willing to share a disk image of a working copy of the data DVD for experimental purposes only.

Sounds like I am in the same boat...

I have a MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz (MacBookPro2,2)
I just got Dictate and have not been able to get past it crashing at the dialog to create a profile. I was also wondering if it might be related to the data from the disks that they seem to have had problems with in duplication possibly being corrupt somehow, but it seemed to install OK. just slowly.

Hopefully they will come through for us and provide some information.

I am quite annoyed to be honest, iListen never worked to my satisfaction. I was aware of its flaws and made that purchase partly because I wanted to support Macspeech's efforts. So I was a bit taken aback by the stance they took of Dictate being a "crossgrade" and pretty expensive as if it were a competitors product rather than offering a a "thanks for sticking with us" loyalty type of price. So all this hassle is just driving me up the wall.

I had same problem but I seem to have found a fix (for me at least)
Getting rid of the data that the program copied from the disk seemed to do the trick.

Select finder
Type Cmd-shift-G
Paste "~/library/Application Support/MacSpeech"
Delete "Data"
Start MacSpeech Dictate.app again and have it load the Data again.

Hope this helped

gmacster,

That is encouraging and would seem to add some credibility to my suspicions that I mentioned above. I was planning on replacing the data manually with a fresh copy off the disk when I got a spare moment, so reading that you did something similar and it worked is making me hopeful. : )

I will see if I can do it now and report back.

No go. I tried deleting the data folder and letting Dictate reinstall the needed fils twice with no luck. Also they have hobbled the disk in such a was so that you cant easily see the data folder to copy it manualy.

I've deleted and reloaded the data several times. No dice. I did receive the email from MacSpeech that there were some bad data DVDs distributed and I should call about a replacement. I called and the tech support person said that he couldn't send me the disk but that he would elevate my support issue to a higher level and someone would contact me soon. He said that person would be able to help with getting a new data DVD. Still no response the to the emails I've sent nor did anyone contact me since talking to the tech (via email nor phone). If they would just post the data DVD as a disk image for download, they would resolve a lot of issues and foster a lot of good will. It has to be cheaper to pay for temporary bandwidth for users that need a replacement DVD than to eat the cost of physically shipping disks to the users having problems.

I wonder if they can even post that data. I bet its stuff they licensed from Nuance and they may be bound as to how they can distribute it. The disk is even locked against causal viewing of the files.

I wonder if anyone has put up a copy on a file sharing system. I don't download stuff from those places, but as a musician I have to be aware of that group of people and what they are up to. Maybe Dictate is too new, but I would almost be surprised if it was not on one of them. I am not advocating anyone break their license and upload the data disk mind you. Just wondering if someone already had so we could use it to get our legitimate copies working. Honestly, I am not sure I would want to go downloading that sort of thing from strange servers... you might get something "extra". Guess I am feeling desperate. heh

I just want this thing working, and I want them to be working hard to get it fixed and communicating with people about the problem. After reading this thread, I have little hope of that happening quickly.
