Was it Jamal? That poor kid is taking all the heat for their ineptitude. I bought mine at Macworld and I still have the business card from the Macspeech salesman who sold it to me. I tried to call him yesterday and his phone number is no longer in service. Macworld was only 2 months ago. A very bad sign. I have write 2 reviews, 1 on Mac Mall and 1 on Amazon.
I don't know what else to do.

BuiltInBC,

I have seen that, but unfortunately it is worded in such a way that it does not seem to cover the specific problem we are having here. We all suspect it is related, but our disks mount and install the data, it just seems that it MAY be corrupt and causing the application to crash.

The best clue we have so far that it is the same issue is that hanschris posted that they sent him new disks that seemed to fix his issue. It would be nice if they updated the website to say. "Oh yeah, new DVDs will be sent to people having the crashing problem too!"

Cross referencing the discontent.

http://forums.macworld.com/thread/97320?start=60&tstart=0

At some point in the past Macspeech folk were watching this thread.
You know, I really do appreciate Macspeech and what they have done. It just sucks to have been in the unlucky group that got these messed up disks... If in fact that is the problem.

I also received an email about the data disc problem. Thought the number might be useful for those of you who hadn't gotten this notice.

In reply to:

Our disc duplicator recently notified us that Data Discs included in the MacSpeech Dictate solution may demonstrate a higher than normal failure rate for discs produced prior to March 20, 2008. The cause of this issue has been corrected.

However, if you experienced any difficulty mounting or using the Data Disc, or if the disc when mounted is not named "MacSpeech English Data," please contact MacSpeech, Inc. technical support for a replacement. You can reach technical support by sending email to dictate-support@macspeech.com or by calling 410-568-3645 from 8am to 12midnight Eastern Time Monday through Friday.

The vast majority of Data Discs are not affected, and we certainly hope this includes you as well. If you are affected, please contact us immediately so we can correct the situation, and please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience.

Respectfully,

The MacSpeech Team

Not sure if this is best place to post but am looking for help & have not received response from support email to Macspeech. No problem with installation but I'm coming from Dragon Naturally Speaking & can't figure out some basic functions. My dictations require frequent italicization and bold words. How can one dictate these style changes in MacSpeech?

thanks

Like most of you, I have experienced the same problems with MacSpeech failing to load and crashing. I was also unfortunate in that I bought three copies of MacSpeech Dictate. However, when I erased the data file and inserted another of my three "Data Disks" and installed the new "Data", the program loaded properly and all seems to be working fine now. This confirms that there are bad "Data" disks out there.

It is still frustrating not being able to add new words and phrases with "Dictate". Dragon Naturally Speaking on a PC works much better for now and without this limitation.

Hi All,

I have the same crash on profile creation problem. This forum thread provides ample evidence that corruption within the Data directory caused by bad DVDs is the source of the problem. Let's try to determine what files are corrupted. Would someone with a *working* installation of MacSpeech please run the following commands from a Terminal window and then cut and paste the screen output here.

cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/MacSpeech/Data # the backslash is followed by a single space
cksum `find . -not -type d` # the quote characters are backwards single quotes

The output will be about 146 lines that look like this:

221371814 6148 ./.DS_Store
3763556895 69632 ./aus/am/small.sig
3531644243 11685888 ./aus/am/small.usr
...

The first number on each line is a file checksum. Those of us with corrupted data files will be able to compare checksums we generate to determine how hoarked up our installations are.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Hi Folks,

I have read through this thread and I'm confused. I'm getting the same problem with macspeech closing unexpectingly as I try to 'create a profile'. I have send a ticket through the vendor's form and have not heard anything.

I just purchased my mac pro (switching from windows) mostly because macspeech just came out. I have a disability so I need to use speech recognition to do my work.

Any help is greatly appreciated as every keystroke is precious.
