Hi,
I just installed ram in my late 2006 intel iMac, 17" 2 ghz.

I removed the two stock 500mb ram modules and installed one 2gb and one 1 gb modules. I seated them properly, the iMac starts and runs fine but now the two DIMM ejector clips won't close and I cannot replace the screwed on access door.
I do not want to force the two clips closed for fear of breaking them and do not know how to remove the two modules.
Would anyone know how to go about doing this without damaging the modules or iMac?
Thank you.

Normally the clips won't close until the modules are fully seated. They should close by themselves when the module is fully inserted.

Are you sure they're fully inserted, bottomed out?

If you're unsure about this, you should take it to an Apple store.

See step #6: http://www.crucial.com/install/dimm.aspx

Those release clips work a bit different than the older side holders. These are the grey arms that swing out yes?

You will have to push them in. yes they will meet a lot of resistance but that's normal. You can lessen the resistance by pushing them in at the same time as the memory module but it's too late for that now.

DO NOT attempt to remove the modules without using the arms. There's lots of little nubs on the modules that look good for getting a fingernail etc on but they break off easily and will total the memory module.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, the RAM is fully seated and it evidently does seat without the clips going in.
Yes, they are the grey arms that swing out. There is resistance when pushing them to try closing them. You say it is possible to just close them without harming them?
If so, I will try. I would hate to break them off.

They'll make a sudden lurch when they get past their point of resistance but no sickening grind or crunch thankfully. They're actually almost that resistive even without the memory modules in place.

After that they'll be back where you first found them, just sticking out a bit and easily tucked inside to make way for the door.

I pushed them in, as you suggested. It worked perfectly. Thanks you so much.
