All of a sudden, when I try to open a file in word or excel I get the message "Not enough memory". What is going on? HELP, I have a lot of files I need to open.
Thanks, Ron

More information please. Which OS are you using? Which version of Office? How much RAM do you have? What is the hard drive capacity and how much free space does it have? Which specific Mac are you using? How many apps are open when this happens and which apps are they?

Thanks for the reply.

MacBook Pro, System 10.5.5, 2GB Memory, Hard Drive says, Cap. 111.47 GB, Available 64.43.
No other apps. open when trying to open either Word or Excel.

Microsoft office 2008.

Both worked fine one day and then "not enough memory" the next.

When you open Activity Monitor, how much is shown on the "%Idle" line?

Can you open other files that are not created by Word or Excel?

You may need to update your Office. Please see this document
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958267
The older versions of Office 2008 had this problem and new update 12.1.3 dealt with this issue.
Hope it helps.
P.S. Mac OS update to 10.5.7 wouldn't hurt either.
