I'm glad Apple is coming through for you! laugh I was frankly surprised and dismayed at the results of your first contact with them. That first contact was not what we have come to expect from Apple.

According to MacTracker, MacBook1,1 shipped from the factory with Mac OS X 10.4.6 not Mac OS X 10.5.x. So the discs Apple is sending you will be Tiger, not Leopard. Assuming the disc you have is a Leopard disc the only way to install it on a Mac that has Leopard installed would be to do an erase and install which wipes out everything.

By the way, I have absolutely no idea what the dealer meant by a MacBook 2.0GH. There aint no such animal listed by Apple.

Joe, the dealer likely meant "MacBook 2.0 GHz," as assumed by dianne in her reply above. (FWIW, in addition to the five models she found, the first Unibody MacBook also shipped in a 2.0 GHz version.)

Unless I missed something (always a possibility), Alison didn't mention "MacBook1,1" anywhere, so I'm not sure why you assume the MacBook in question isn't MacBook3,1 (Late 2007), which shipped with OS X 10.5.

DK what you missed was the following post I received because I was subscribed to the thread. Apparently Allison either deleted or heavily edited the post later.

Apple is being less than helpful. All things considered I guess I don't blame them! The model ID is Macbook 1,1. Interestingly the machine ID doesn't show up there and nor does the serial number. However, under the battery the serial number is 4H629F0EU9C-PN:56998-C:N-MFR:MA255LL/A-BIDSR-193B. The part numbers on the install disks are 2Z691-6356-A and 2Z691-6357-A. I've run disk utility checks and used the computer quite a bit. Nothing seems to be wrong except the text edit issue and I really think I did that somehow.

The seller of the disks said they came from a Macbook 2.0GH that he got about a month ago, but he didn't say if he got it used or new. I had absolutely no idea what a big deal these disks are!

Thank-you so much for your help!

Alison
