just installed Stuffit Deluxe 7 on my PowerBook DVI running OS X.2.1. everything seems to be ok, but the Stuffit Deluxe app keeps crashing and crashing all the time. if at last you can open one file with it, after unstuffing, it crashes again. My solution was to remove the Stuffit Deluxe app from my system and work with Drop Stuff and Expander...

I know some other users with the same problem... even in version 6.5 and 6.5.1.

What can I do to get this thing I spent much money for to work ??

I'm using a Powerbook 800 Mhz DVI running 10.2.1 and the Stuffit Deluxe App is not crashing on my system. I don't know what could be happening with your system. So far from what you say, I can't tell what the problem could be. Something must not be right if it is crashing; but it's difficult to see what it could be from the current info.
Question, are you running 6.5.x of Stuffit Deluxe or did you remove it before installing? What else do you have on your system?

I am on a Beige G3, and Stuffit 7 keeps crashing on me, when ever I try to expand and archive or to stuff an archive. It does not like to deal with archives at all. Please if you dont have problems we really dont need to hear form you. It does not help. I'm sure there are as lot of people who are not having problems.
This is the buggiest Stuffit I ever paid for! It is slwo as a river of molassis. It crashes my system. And it corrupts files. If it dont on yours consider it a yet, and count your blessings. Until then i could use some hlep form alladin on this, or a refund!

Please tell us what system you're running... (8.6, 9.2.2, etc...). How much RAM do you have in your beige G3? Did you install over 6.5.1 or any previous version of Stuffit Deluxe or was this a clean install? What do you mean by corrupting your files? Do you mean archives or files that your attempting to stuff? Describing your steps while using the product would be helpful too. I think the folks at Aladdin will try to help but they need to be able to duplicate your problem. All the appropriate information is necessary in order to figure out what's going on.

Some archives have been corrupted, after trying to open them. I archived a bunch of files form one HD to another so I could wipe the HD. When i tried to open them and copy them back to their location. I get frequent crashes on my system while trying to open and archive. Some of the archives are 1.2 gb, some were only 500 mb. Also was getting 4-5 hour delays to open and stuff archives. It would then hang and crash the system, over and over and over again. Forcing a hard restart. meaning a forced restart, meaning a command,control,power button restart. I had 6.5.1 in there, I installed after removing it. Today I uninstalled, then reinstalled, making sure there were absolutely no alladin files on my computer. I get the same problem. the ionstall also messed up my permissions requiring extensive repairs to them. This is a flawed application that was not ready for prime time. I even opened up OS 9 aqnd tried to work with the archives in 9, and they were reported corrupted. Most likely becuase of switching from OSX to OS9. Which should not be the case. I have written to alladin, and posted here, wating for a fix. the only fix will be coming when they post an update to this very buggy app.

I too have had awful problems with the Finder and Stuffit 7.0 of the type you describe. I am running 9.2.2 on a 500 MHz Ti Powerbook.

I have reverted back to 6.5.1 with no problems. I called Aladdin who weren't very helpful - I found out that the installer left 6.5.1 behind and that Stuffit Helper seems to be one other major contributors to the problems. Preventing the helper app from starting improves the performance but not enough to prevent an ultimate catastrophic crash.

I installed Stuffit Standard 7.0 (Clean install of OS 10.2 on a G4 tower) and every time I try to use Expander 7 (either by double clicking an archive or opening expander and dropping the archive on it), it fails. I get this message in the console: "2002-09-25 09:16:25.320 StuffIt Expander[1539] CFLog (21): Cannot find executable for CFBundle 0x1a2e990 </Library/CFMSupport/StuffItEngineShell.cfm/Contents/Plug-Ins/bz2.cfm> (not loaded)". It will not unstuff archives. Not a good move to release a product that doesn't work.

i am getting an error mesage now when i try to unstuff a .sit archive. Here is the message, maybe alladin tech can help :
An error 17538 has occured expanding the file "Archived_Mail.sit" (Internal error)
end of message.
Can someone form alladin help us. This is not a one time thing here. My guess is that the ones having no problems are the ones who is only using it for 1 small file. I am working with archives here. the archive with the last error message was a 648K archive so it wasnt that big in size but there were a lot of pieces of mail in it. Please help tech suupport.

Its going to be a bit hard to troubleshoot the issues described here since we aren't able to reproduce them in house.

Are you running any other applications when you are seeing these crashes? Are you getting any error messages of any sort? I'm at a bit of a loss as to why you may be encountering this issue, so I'm just trying to think of any possibilites here. Forcing a restart while trying to create/open/manipulate an archive very well could result in the archive being damaged. From the documents I have seen a 17538 error seems to be an archive damaged/corrupted type of error.

For what its worth, we tested extensively with different numbers of files in archives, and different sizes of archives. I tend to doubt the issue is coming from the fact that you are using large archives, or large numbers of files within archvies.

i gave you the error code i was getting. where do you think i got that number from? do you think i made it up. It isnt happening on your computer in your test lab so it dont happen?? And to answer your other question, no no other applications were open. If you are asking if I have other applications, the answer is unfortunately yes, I have other apps on my computer. Tell me do you have other apps on your test computers? In the finder with no other apps open it crashes my computer when i open up or work with archicves in Stuffit Deluxe 7! Now I just did a fresh install of jaguar, nothing is crashing but you know why? Becuase I have not installed Stuffit Deluxe 7 yet. This website and other websites are full of problems people are having with Stuffit Deluxe. Please dont tell me there are no problems. You could have and should have held this app back till you ironed out the wrinkles instead of making us ginny pigs, with valuable data on our computers! I didnt see any warning that I could lose data if I used Stuffit Deluxe 7! but I still did. I guess I will chalk this up to your company not caring about honest paying customers like myself.
