My G5 Tiger installation went fine, but after a forced shut down (wouldn't shut down) I did fsck (also did Disk Utility from an external Tiger utilities drive) and got a message that there was an "illegal name" and couldn't be repaired. The Illegal Name message appeared right after the "Checking Catalog Files"
I re-archive and installed and fsck and all was well, no "illegal name" message.
Now it has just happened again, forced shut down, fsck, illegal name.
I then booted from my Utilies drive and ran TTP 4.0.4 on it. TTP 4 found no errors.
Hoping to eliminate the illegal name error I rebuilt the directory with TTP 4.0.4. It had only the usual green changes.
Also used TTP to fix Finder errors.
After the TTP rebuild, Disk Utility still shows the Illegal name error.
I have also had some Photoshop CS2 quits, and thinking it might be some recent RAM, I ran the extended Apple Hardware test (took 2.5 hours). No faults found.
So that is where I am now. Feeling somewhat uneasy and not sure what to do next.
Any advice most welcome
Mike
