Yesterday we updated to the new Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 update. Since then Finder intermittently won't load Sometimes the system even freezes up for about 3-5 minutes.

Is there anyway to uninstall it?

Hello,

Sorry to hear. No, there's no way to uninstall a Java update. First of all I'd suggest you give more information when posting such things (ie; OS version, hardware, etc that may help in troubleshooting!).

Have you attempted Repairing Permissions?

Did you attempt re-installing?

If using Jaguar still, did you download and install the Java Security update?

We're running OS X 10.4.2 on a Mac mini with bluetooth. Yes we checked permissions. We did not attempt reinstalling because it doesn't show up in update finder anymore. We've heard a lot of people saying that the update has effected their Safari, but oddly ours is working good so far.

MacFixit has a nice tutorial on safe way to update/upgrade. Like backing up the system to another drive (or disk image on another drive) and making sure the system is healthy. No problems wtih the directory or filesystem, no corrupt files. Sounds like there may have been a problem, or even a conflict.

My dual 2 G-5 PowerMac is doing exactly the same thing. I don't believe my Finder or Dock starts working on it's own again, though. Actually I am trying it right now. It's been non-functional for 20-minutes now.

Tiger 10.4.2 Java update installed yesterday

Jon, I don't know if it will work with the Finder problem. The one person that tried it for the browser/website problems, didn't help him completely.

I knew it!
I am glad I am not alone in this issue...Safari will function but if I do a google search from the browser..finder locks up and the spinning beachball just spins....I tried doing an archive and re-install of Tiger but to no avail....problem still persists.
Guess it's time for the back up wipe and start from scratch.... dammit!

You may want to check out today's report on MacFixit's Home Page regarding the Java update in relation to its affect on the OS system lookupd process.
